Mumbai girl, 16, dies in fire at Dadar police station compound

A fire brigade official said the girl was alone at home and may have died due to suffocation.

A 16-year-old girl died in a fire at a building in Mumbai’s Dadar on Sunday. The incident took place at the Dadar police station compound.

A fire brigade official said the girl was alone at home and may have died due to suffocation.

The blaze erupted around 1 pm in one of the quarters on third floor of the five-storey building located in the compound. Four fire engines and three water tankers were rushed to the spot. Several electrical wirings, installations and household items were gutted.

The disaster management department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation confirmed that a 16-year-old girl died in the incident.

Someone spotted smoke coming out of a house and alerted the residents. The building was quickly evacuated.

Efforts were underway to bring the fire under control and the cause of the blaze is yet to ascertained.
