29 pc polling in Rajasthan in first 5 hours

Twenty-nine per cent of the 3.40 crore electorate exercised their franchise in Rajasthan assembly polls till 1300 hours, an official spokesman said.

Sikar and Chittorgarh districts recorded a maximum percentage of 32 while a minimum of 22 per cent polling was recorded in Sirohi, the spokesman said.

A fake voter allegedly smashed an EVM at Peethala village of Jaisalmer district and was immediately arrested, while a group of persons damaged an EVM at Behaj. an EVM fell down in Nandira village of Bharatpur district, the spokesman said.

The sole polling booth at Gegada village in Bikaner district, which was inundated after breach in the canal, was shifted to a safer place and polling began normally there.

Two polling agents clashed over issuing slips to voters at Kamalpura under Neem-ka-Thana, the police said, adding both of them were picked up by the local police and the situation was normal there within few minutes.

In a polling booth of Jalore district, a mob of voters boycotted the balloting and alleged that neither parties had done any developmental work in their constituency. The polling resumed after one hour as the officials convinced them.

In Jaipur, the voters were seen complaining the presiding officers of their missing names in the voters list despite they having possessed photo identity cards.
