Apple Computer is planning to set up a technical support centre in Karnataka on the lines of the one which Dell has in India.

Director of Software Technology Parks of India, Bangalore, BV Naidu gave no details on investment and hiring plans noting that it's for the company to make an annoucement in this regard.

Naidu also said two large American banks as well as a retail chain from the US are also looking at Karnataka for investment.

Meanwhile, STPI officials said a technology incubation centre for green field projects would come up at Electronic City on the city outskirts soon besides allowing companies to get online approval processing through ERP implementation.

Responding to questions at a press conference, Karnataka IT Secretary MK Shankarlinge Gowda termed SemIndia's move to locate its fab city project in Hyderabad as "business decision".

Noting that Bangalore has "some limitations" in terms of availability of land, he said SemIndia was offered 1,200 acres of land near Mysore for the project and even a polytechnic to train manpower for the venture.
