The Congress on Thursday retained the Chandigarh parliamentary seat with Pawan Kumar Bansal being re-elected by 45,248 votes against Bharatiya Janata Party's Satyapal Jain, who polled 94,632 votes.

Bansal polled 139,880 votes compared to Jain's 94,632. This is Bansal's third win from Chandigarh after 1991 and 1999. Jain had won in 1996 and 1998.
Bansal's victory margin over Jain is the highest by any candidate from Chandigarh.
Former central minister Harmohan Dhawan, contesting on an Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) ticket, failed to retain his security deposit as he got only 17,762 votes. He was elected from here in 1989.
