In the playoff match for the fifth spot, Mozambique displayed superior skills to control the match and pull off a creditable win at Melbourne Park today.

India conceded a 13-point lead to the Africans in the first quarter itself which proved costly in the end.

In the second period, the Indians staged a comeback to shade it 12-9. But that was not enough to dampen the spirit of their opponents.

The poorest show came from the Indians came in the third quarter which they lost 5-19 and a better performance in the final period was too little too late.

India gave a close chase to the African side in the last quarter (17-19) but lost out to a team they had beaten in the preliminary round.

Geethu Ann Jose was the pick of the Indian cagers, scoring 20 points, whereas Ruit Elias Muianga (21) and CDB Silva (19) were the main scorers for Mozambique.

In the men's section, India lost to Barbados 55-96 yesterday and would now play in the seventh place playoff against South Africa on Wednesday.
