Don't you think it's unfair of China to drag its diplomatic row with Norway into the Miss World contest?
Not at all, all statistics, even vital statistics are fair game in any row.
But Miss Norway Mariann Birkedal couldn't make it to even the top three, after being an odds-on favourite. The Norwegians feel that pageant host China has made their lass pay the price for the Oslo-based Nobel Peace Prize committee's decision to bestow this year's Peace Prize on a Chinese dissident.
How naive can you get? The contest has nothing to do with beauty and everything to do booty. So, since China wants to get in on the ground floor with the US, the winner is from there. Not much that Norway can do about that unless it wants to feel the dragon's breath on the already melting glaciers nearby.
Do you mean that all such contests are rigged? I am losing my faith in humanity.
Of course, all pageants are used to settle scores. For goodness sake, whenever you hear that someone from some obscure atoll has won, be assured it is not to save the environment but to cock a snook at some bigger, troublesome country.
Do say: To the victor, the spoils.
Don't say: We believe in the sisterhood of mankind.
