Father JVN Josh and many others belonging to non-governmental organisations said here on Wednesday that a government order (GO) was issued by the state government but due to lack of will, it failed to achieve its objective.

They said the GO pertained to analysing the causes of maternal deaths and reducing their number through appropriate action to achieve the target of National Health Policy 2000. With this objective in mind, the NGOs had constituted committees at primary health centres (PHC) and community health centres (CHC). According to reports, 40,000 women died during pregnancy or at the time of delivery in the state.
