Congress activists stage dharna

ACTIVISTS OF the Congress party today staged a dharna at CDO office. They were protesting against indifferent attitude of the officials in implementing the welfare scheme launched by the Union government. Party leaders also submitted a four-point memorandum to district officials in this regard. They alleged that officials were violating the norms in allotment of works under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Party leaders also submitted a four-point memorandum to district officials in this regard.

They alleged that officials were violating the norms in allotment of works under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Addressing the party workers, chief coordinator of the Zila Congress Sewa Dal Ram Pujan Patel said that officials were misusing the funds allotted by the Union Government.

He alleged large-scale irregularities in distribution of below poverty line card at Sardarnagar and Chauri Chaura Tehsil.

Patel said that Congress leaders would expose the misdeed of corrupt officials in implementing the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and other programmes.

He also blamed the State Government for diverting funds to other heads before the Assembly elections.

Patel said that State Government has allocated Rs 500 crore for distribution of unemployment allowances and demanded that government should clarify from where it had managed the funds.

Senior Congress leader Brij Narain Sharma and RD Chaturvedi said party leaders would also stage dharna and demonstration at block headquarters against the corrupt practices of the officials.

They said that Union government had introduced numbers of welfare schemes for weaker section and minorities but State Government was not cooperating with the Union government in implementing the scheme. Another party leader Rais Ahmad Khan demanded to institute an inquiry in embezzlement of funds.
