JD (U) gets 2 more seats

BJP in Karnataka on Sunday allotted two more assembly seats for alliance partner JD-U and asked its own candidates who had entered into the fray to retire.

BJP in Karnataka on Sunday allotted two more assembly seats for alliance partner JD-U and asked its own candidates who had entered into the fray to retire.
 
The two seats are Arakalgud in Hassan district and Baindoor in Udupi district,  according to BJP's state unit chief Ananth Kumar.

Accordingly, BJP candidates Vageesh Prasad and Lakshminarayana have been asked to retire from respective segments, and they have been replaced with JD-U's Purushottam and IM Jayaram Shetty as the combine's candidates in those two constituencies.

When the electoral pact was inked with BJP, the JD-U had been allotted 25 of the total 224 assembly seats in Karnataka and four of the total 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Ananth Kumar exuded confidence that the people of Karnataka would give a decisive mandate in favour of his party.

Union Law Minister and the in-charge of BJP affairs in Karnataka, Arun Jaitley,  said the party is clearly seeing the ripples of wave (of Vajpayee's leadership and NDA's performance) in Karnataka.

"We are hopeful that the BJP-JD (U) will secure an unprecedented majority," Jaitley added.
