To recall the park was sanctioned four years ago by Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, the then Science and Technology and Human Resource Development Minister and local MP and the foundation stone was laid by Joshi at Barud Khana in Teliyarganj.

During the same function, the Uttar Pradesh government had promised to provide all assistance in order to make the park functional within a year.

The plan suffered a setback soon after the Railway Department made its claim on the land and disallowed the UP Government to construct the park on its own land.

The matter remained in limbo while Dr Joshi raised the issue on various platforms including before the President Dr APJ Kalam during the latter's visit to the city to attend National Academy of Sciences platinum jubilee celebrations.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat after being appointed as the administrator of Allahabad Nagar Nigam showed a special interest in this matter.

The Nagar Nigam agreed to give its land in Naini area for the project.

As a result the State Government released Rs 72 lakh for the construction of the proposed park.

Principal Secretary Non-conventional Energy Development Authority (NEDA), Sanjay Bhusreddy visited the proposed site in Naini alongwith the District Magistrate, Allahabad Development Authority Vice Chairman Rajaram Upadhaya and other officials concerned on Monday.

The Principal Secretary expressed his dissatisfaction over delay in levelling of land.

DM and ADA officers told him that nearly Rs 30 lakh would be needed for levelling of the land only.

Considering the cost factor, the officials decided to shift the project to a new site near the newly-built Yamuna bridge.

Even in the evening at the meeting held in the Commissioner's auditorium the ADA and NN officials agreed upon to exchange the land from each another.

DM said the work would now be started from this week and the photograph of proposed site would be sent to the State Government within 15 days.

The cost of the project has also been hiked to Rs 1.90 crore.
