GSVM MEDICAL College principal has constituted a five-member internal inquiry team and asked to submit a report after probing Monday night’s unsavoury incident, wherein a JR II and other junior residents were involved in a brawl with LLR Hospital medical superintendent Dr RB Gautam. Even as Gautam went on an indefinite hunger strike at the entrance of Chief Medical Superintendent’s office, the inquiry panel has been given a week’s time to submit its report.

Laden with garlands and surrounded by political leaders today Dr Gautam found leaders like Dhani Ram Baudh, leader of Bhartiya Dalit Panther, Lal Bihari Lodhi, former city president of BSP, K Nath, leader of Baudh Upasak Sangh and Ram Raj Bharti, Founder Dalit Movement of India and State president besides several other such leaders.

Interestingly, in the indefinite hunger strike by Dr Gautam most of the followers were those who have no connections either with the Provincial Medical Health Services (PMHS) or with the medical college, but all were casting aspersions on principal Dr Katiyar and were targeting junior doctors in their speeches. Though the hospital work was being done normally but kin of patients were seen enjoying the speeches of leaders. Nurses too, were found enjoying the tamasha.

Meanwhile, the staff of the hospital signed on the attendance register but were spotted at the site of strike.

Some PMHS doctors at UHM and KPM Hospitals have expressed resentment over the manner Dr Gautam has been tarnishing the image of PMHS doctors, though off the record. A level II PMHS doctor said, “The way Dr Gautam is playing the caste game and had called several political leaders from a particular caste is indeed confirming that all previous allegations against Dr Gautam are true.

He should have acted like an intellectual if any atrocity was perpetrated against him. Highlighting his caste appears he has lost his mental balance.”

Meanwhile, reacting to the matter Dr SK Katiyar said, “I have ensured that patients visiting the hospital should get adequate treatment and let the inquiry that has been conducted following demands by Dr Gautam be over and whoever is found guilty would be dealt with firmly.”
