A seasoned politician, Parasram Maderna is one of the oldest members of Rajasthan assembly. He has been elected to Rajasthan assembly for a record nine times ever since being elected for the first time (1957-1962).
Born in village Chadi in district Jodhpur on July 23, 1926, Maderna went on to complete his Masters and later degree in Law from Rajasthan. He had been a Congress member ever since his induction into politics and has remained loyal to the party so far. He has contested the assembly election from Bhopalgarh continuency in Jodhpur.
A veteran politician, Maderna has held several important positions in his chequered career. He was Sarpanch on the Chadi village between 1953 and 1956. He had been a member of Public Accounts Committee and Estimates Committee of Rajasthan Assembly for long.
He became chairman of Central Cooperative Bank Ltd, Jodhpur and held the post from 1987 to 1990. Maderna was appointed to the state cabinet during 1962-66 when he was appointed as a deputy minister, General Administration Department.
He was later elevated to the post of cabinet minister and thereafter held several portfolios including GAD, Revenue, Irrigation. He was also the deputy leader of Congress in the state assembly between 1974 and 1977.
Maderna has also served as the president of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee between 1984 and 1989. Then he was elected as Speaker of the 11th state assembly.
