"We are taking all possible steps in view of the situation...All our force is on alert and bomb detection squads are also ready to meet any eventuality", he said.
Roy said additional policemen have been deployed at sensitive places and the quick response and assault teams have also been asked to be on alert.
"I appeal to citizens to help maintain peace and harmony during this festive season and foil attempts by forces who do not want peace to prevail in the city", he said.
"There is no cause for panic and I urge residents of Mumbai not to fall prey to rumours", he said.
Replying to a query, Roy said he had not so far discussed the situation in the city after the Delhi blasts with the Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil, who also holds Home portfolio.
