A team of trainee chartered accountants have volunteered to guide senior citizens in filing income tax returns at special counters set up for them in the city.
During the Senior Citizen Week, beginning June 20, every day these special counters attend to around 100 people who come to furnish annual income details or for the redressal of income tax-related grievances.
Three trainees, representing the Chartered Accountants Association of India, come to the IT office daily to assist senior citizens, said DS Kalyan, additional commissioner (IT), Gurgaon.
Kalyan said that half of the grievances related to refund of tax deduction collected since June 20 have been disposed off and the rest would be addressed on priority basis.
The department is also planning to dedicate from July 4 to July 8 to women and differently-abled people in Gurgaon while from July 1 to July 15 would be dedicated to women, senior citizens and differently-abled people in Faridabad.
He said the department receives most of the grievances regarding processing of TDS (Tax Deduction at Sources) certificates.
"Some of the main reasons of not giving refunds as per TDS certificates are wrong or non-quoting of PAN in the return form, non-payment of the deducted tax amount and non-filling of returns by the deductor company," Kalyan said.
