Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday kickstarted her mass contact programme from Chandrapur in south eastern Vidarbha.

Accompanied by AICC secretary Selja, Gandhi arrived here by helicopter from Nagpur and embarked on her tour programme.

She immediately mingled with the crowd at the helipad on police ground and later visited few areas in the city before proceeding Warora via Tadali.

Hundreds of people were standing on both sides of the road in Chandrapur and other places and waved at her.

She was received at the helipad by senior leader Shivraj Patil, MPCC president Ranjit Deshmukh and Chandrapur Congress nominee Naresh Pugalia and Republic federation nominee RS Gavai, Jogindra Kawade (Chimur) and other leaders.

She will reach Nagpur by evening via Warora and Hinganghat, where she will spend nearly three hours on all the five assembly segments of Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency.
