THE WORK on setting up of four new units, two each at Parichha and Harduaghanj thermal powerhouses, will begin within next 15-20 days. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) will carry out the civil work related to the boiler turbine and the generator in the new power units to be set up under the public sector.

An agreement to this effect will be signed between the Nigam and the BHEL after the proposal gets a nod from the Cabinet next week. A senior power official said that the Utpadan Nigam would set up two new units of 250 MW capacity each at Parichha and as many at Harduaganj, adding a total capacity of 1,000 MW in next three years from these plants alone. He said that as per the contract to be signed, the BHEL would be given Rs 1224 crore each, for completing the civil work regarding the boiler turbine and the generator of the two power units at Parichha and Harduaganj. The rates were finalised at the meeting called by the CERC on May 4.
