Why MS Dhoni, Mumbai Indians continue to dominate IPL 2017
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who plays for Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2017, continues to dominate Social Media in IPL 2017 along with two-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians who are currently leading the points table.Updated: May 10, 2017 17:35 IST
Mahendra Singh Dhoni might be having a lukewarm IPL 2017, with just 235 runs at just an average of 26.11 with one fifty. However, that has not stopped ‘Captain Cool’ from being the darling of Twitter.
In the latest top moments released by the Twitter Cricket Index for week five, Dhoni topped the Twitter IPL player emoji leaderboard. The former Indian skipper is ahead of his Rising Pune Supergiant team-mate Ben Stokes while the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh are in third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
The 2017 edition of the IPL is the first time where cricketers have got customised emojis on the social network platform. While using the player’s hashtag, the players’ emoji face will crop up. The idea of a player’s emoji was inspired from Paul Pogba, the Manchester United midfielder who became the first Premier League player to get his own emoji.
Sunil Narine on top of the best moments
When it comes to the best moments in IPL 2017, Sunil Narine’s 15-ball fifty tops the charts. His effort against Royal Challengers Bangalore helped Kolkata Knight Riders to slam 105 runs in six overs, the highest ever by a team in IPL history as KKR won the match by six wickets.
Narine’s feat was the joint-fastest fifty in IPL along with Yusuf Pathan. Along with Narine’s feat, Rishabh Pant’s tour-de-force knock of 97 off 43 balls for Delhi Daredevils against Gujarat Lions was also included. However, batsmen alone did not dominate the moments. Jaydev Unadkat, playing for Rising Pune Supergiant, was also part of the top moments in the tournament for his haul of 5/30 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The haul was not only Unadkat’s second five-wicket haul in IPL, but it was also the third hat-trick of IPL 2017. It also made the left-armer only the second bowler after James Faulkner to take five wickets twice in the tournament.
Delhi Daredevils No.1 in something
Delhi Daredevils might never have won the IPL. They may have not finished on top in the last four editions, but their match against Gujarat Lions was the top match in IPL 2017. Gujarat Lions had notched up 208/3 but Delhi Daredevils achieved the second-best chase in IPL history thanks to Pant’s aggressive 97 and Samson’s 60.
Apart from the #DDvGL match, the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore was the second most talked about in this edition. In the match in Eden Gardens, KKR bowled out RCB for 49, the lowest total in IPL history with none of the batsmen reaching double figures. Kolkata Knight Riders featured in another top moment and that was in the game against Rising Pune Supergiant, where Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir blazed away.
When it came to the most talked team on Twitter for the fifth week, Mumbai Indians led the charts along with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.
