Police said that Parnami first received a threatening WhatsApp message on Sunday demanding 10 lakh. The messages said in case the demand was not met, Parnami and his family will be killed. “The messages were in Hindi and sent from an unknown foreign number. A case has been registered at Moti Doongri police station and we are investigating the matter,” ACP (Gandhingar) Rajpal Godara said.

In a statement, Parnami said, “I received the messages on Sunday. On Monday, I got WhatsApp calls from the same number but I did not answer them. On Monday evening, I informed commissioner Sanjay Agarwal about it.”

Following the incident, Parnami’s security has been increased. A temporary outpost has been set-up outside Parnami’s residence. “We are taking ATS and SOG’s help in the matter as well,” Godara said.
