He may be in the thick of an election campaign in Rajasthan, but that hasn’t stopped sportsperson and politician, Rajyavardhan Rathore, from pursuing his fitness regimen. “All of us have very hectic daily schedules and it may not be possible to cull out a neat two hours to workout. So, the trick that I follow is to break the workout into parts and do it whenever there is some free time,” shares Rathore, explaining that when crunched for time, one can do 10 quick push-ups even while in the shower.

“My friends are used to me latching on to a window sill and doing some chin-ups, even if I am in formal clothes. I would say, carry a portable mat, an exercise rope in your bag and do some small sets when you have time,” he shares. The first steps of getting healthy, says Rathore, is the will to be fit and healthy. “Picture yourself in your mind in a fit look and work towards it. Set a goal,” he adds.

However, exercising forms just 33% of the entire gamut of being healthy, says Rathore. “Your diet and rest forms the other 33% each. You gym a lot but eat junk, drink alcohol and don’t rest, then you can’t win the battle against the bulge,” he warns. “Like in the exercise regimen, even in the diet, small portions will help. Eating small meals helps in digestion and does not let fat accumulate in the body. Home cooked food is the best bet, and I usually eat a chappati or have a bowl of dal when I am hungry. And try not to eat after 9pm,” he says.
