Lok Sabha elections 2019: Alcohol served at Sawant event, Deora tells EC

Deora has asked for action to be taken against Sawant, and demanded a probe into the expenditure, as the invite for the event was sent out by Sena’s alliance partner BJP, through its MLA Raj Purohit.

Mumbai Congress president Milind Deora on Tuesday complained to the Election Commission against his contender and Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant of violating the election code of conduct by allowing serving of alcohol at a campaign event at Radio Club in Colaba.

In his complaint to the EC, Deora has asked for action to be taken against Sawant, and demanded a probe into the expenditure, as the invite for the event was sent out by Sena’s alliance partner BJP, through its MLA Raj Purohit.

In response to Deora’s complaint, Sawant said, “Our political parties were not the organizers of the event. We were invited to a privately organised dinner, and the host chose to serve alcohol. None of the party leadership present there participated in the event, as is clear in the video being circulated by Deora.”
