Lok Sabha elections 2019: Congress introduces candidates, says confident of ‘complete sweep’
Delhi Congress chief and three-time chief minister Sheila Dikshit will be the party’s face from North East Delhi.
The Delhi Congress on Thursday formally introduced their seven candidates for the upcoming parliamentary polls.
Delhi Congress chief and three-time chief minister Sheila Dikshit will be the party’s face from North East Delhi, former MPs Ajay Maken from New Delhi, JP Agarwal from Chandni Chowk, Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi, former legislator from Gandhi Nagar Arvinder Singh Lovely from East Delhi, Delhi Congress working president Rajesh Lilothia from the reserved seat of North West, and professional boxer Vijender Singh from South Delhi.
Introducing the candidates, All India Congress Committee Delhi in-charge PC Chacko said they were approved by party president Rahul Gandhi and that he has placed full faith in them to win the seven seats in Delhi.
“We have taken our time, but we have picked the best to contest the elections. In the entire country, the fight will be between the BJP and the Congress, and the same will be the case in Delhi,” Chacko said, commenting on the “irrelevance” of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in these elections.
Dikshit said that she was confident of a “complete sweep” by Congress in Delhi.
“All our candidates are well prepared. Many of the ‘old guards’ as you might say, bring our experience and there are the young blood like Vijender Singh and Rajesh Lilothia,” she said.
Congress’s campaign in-charge Subhash Chopra said that the candidates have started meeting voters in their constituencies and that campaign committees have been formed in each constituency that will make weekly plans for the candidate.
He said the party’s “star campaigners”, including Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the party’s general secretary in Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi, and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will also support the candidates.
