In Mumbai: Former under-19 cricketer drives car on to railway platform, arrested

A former under-19 cricket team player drove his car on to platform number 1 of Andheri station around 8am on Monday, causing inconvenience to several passengers and leading to confusion and chaos during morning peak hours.

The driver, Harmeet Singh, 28, is into real estate business. He is a former member of the under-19 cricket team. According to Andheri RPF, they got an alert on the incident around 8am.

“He is said to have brought the car on to the platform from a road, which has been laid to bring in raw material for construction work at the station,” said an RPF official.

“He is from Punjab. He lives in Malad. He seems new to Mumbai. As of now it looks like he did it by mistake. We see no other reason behind it. He has been arrested ,” said the official.

He has been booked under the railway act. The police are trying to establish if he was drunk. A bat was found on him.
