Maharashtra govt takes steps to curtail mob lynching, violence

Following the Supreme Court’s directives over implementing preventive and punitive measures to avert mob lynching and mob violence, the state home department issued a notification for the appointment of superintendent of police and deputy commissioner of police as nodal officers in their respective jurisdictions.

The police were also directed to appoint action committees to curb cases of mob lynching and mob violence.

In a government resolution (GR) issued on Monday, zonal police officers have been directed to identify places and persons with a history of incidents of mob lynching and mob violence. The nodal officers are mandated to keep tab on such potential troublemakers with the help of police informants, and hold monthly meetings.
