The incident took place in early February, but came to light on Monday. According to the police, Rohit Kota, a Class 8 student of Mother Mary English School, forgot to take his history book to school on February 2. “When his teacher Vijal Muchala asked for the book, Rohit said he had left it at home. Four other students, too, had forgotten to get it to class. In a fit of rage, Vijal slapped Rohit so hard that his left ear started to pain. When he returned home, he complained of ache. His ear was bleeding. The doctor said Rohit’s ear has ruptured partially and he needs a surgery after a week,” said his mother Sharvanti Kota.

“We took up the matter with the school management. They did not show any remorse. We then complained to the Nalla Sopara police,” said Sharvanti.

“We have registered a case under sections 325 and 323 of the IPC and also section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000. We arrested Vijal,” said PI Bharat Jadhav of Nalla Sopara police station.

“After the incident, Rohit has stopped attending school. He is too scared,” said Kota.

Meanwhile, despite repeated attempts, the principal was unavailable for comment.
