Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express to offer modaks during Ganpati
Railway authorities have a plan to woo devotees during the biggest festival in Konkanmumbai Updated: Aug 11, 2017 15:27 IST
If you’re travelling by the Tejas Express to visit your loved ones this Ganeshotsav, the Indian Railway Catering and Transport Corporation (IRCTC) plans to make your trip a little sweeter.
Now, you can feast on Ukadiche Modak — a popular Maharashtrian delicacy served during Ganeshotsav. Made of steamed rice flour, stuffed with a combination of coconut and jaggery, the traditional sweet is considered to be Lord Ganesha’s favourite food.
After the Tejas Express was launched by railway minister Suresh Prabhu on May 21, it became popular among passengers owing to its infotainment systems and automatic doors. However, the number of passengers has dipped since then.
Railway authorities said they hope the flow of commuters will pick up again during Ganeshotsav, the biggest festival in Konkan. Keeping in mind the scores of people who travel during the 10-day-long fest, they plan to woo potential tourists with such ideas.
The corporation had served passengers aboard the Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express modaks during Ganeshotsav last year. Many of them responded positively.
“We have also served passengers pedas, jalebis and other sweets during festivals. They have told us that they appreciate this,”said an IRCTC spokesperson.
