MUMBAI: A city-based NGO wants to protest against the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI) film festival as a 1959-released Pakistani drama film will be screened at cultural festival.

The organisation said that after Uri attacks the screening of the movie is an “injustice to Indians”.

The organisation has approached the Amboli police for permission to protest outside a suburban mall in Andheri where the movie — ‘Jaago Hua Savera’ — is scheduled to be shown. Prithvi Mhaske of Sangharsh Foundation submitted an application to the police on Saturday.

“The organisers of this event are more likely to flare the outrage among the people by telecasting this Pakistani film in their festival,” the application read. It further read, “All single screen theatres have decided to ban movies with Pakistani actors so why these organisers of Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival are pouring so much love towards the Pakistani actors. This will create more unrest and hatred in people towards Pakistan.”

Bharat Gaikwad, senior inspector, said, “We have accepted the application. We have not given them the permission . The applicants have been called for a discussion on Monday, after which a decision will be taken.”

The movie, also known as The Day Shall Dawn, directed by AJ Kardar was released in 1959.

Mhaske told HT, “They (MAMI organisers) are hurting our sentiments. We fight for injustice and corruption. But this is about injustice to Indians. Why do they have so much love for Pakistan?
