Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief said on Wednesday that the civic body would seek legal opinion before a final decision is made on taking the possession of SevenHills Hospital at Andheri (East).
“We have been negotiating on this issue. But any arbitrary action cannot be taken. We will seek legal opinion and the issue will be resolved in a month’s time,” municipal commissioner Subodh Kumar said.
The agreement between the civic body and the hospital is stuck for clearance only on one clause now.
Most of the clauses set by the BMC had been resolved by the hospital but the memorandum of understanding (MoU) is yet to be signed.
The disputed clause is to provide medicines at the same rates as provided in the municipal hospitals.
The issue was being discussed on Wednesday at a meeting at the Mayor’s office, which was attended by various political party leaders in the civic body. The civic body had issued an ultimatum to the hospital that if it doesn’t sign the MoU regarding services to poor patients by Friday, it will start the process of taking over the hospital, built on the land leased by the civic body.
Mayor Shraddha Jadhav said, “The BMC’s side should be legally strong if we need to approach the court before going ahead with the possession of the hospital.”
