Kamal Saigal, the brother of television actor Akashdeep Saigal who was arrested in an alleged fraud flat purchase deal, has claimed he was tortured in police custody. Hearing a petition filed by Kamal’s wife, Meena, the Bombay High Court directed officers of the Mahim police station to get him discharged from KEM hospital and get him admitted to JJ hospital immediately.

Meena claimed that the officers, including police inspector Sunil Chandgude, assaulted her husband and he fell unconscious on June 26. Her advocate argued that Kamal had even suffered a paralytic stroke because of the torture. Saigal was admitted to KEM hospital.

Meena’s petition alleged that her husband is not being given proper medication and sought that he be transferred to a better hospital.

A division bench of Justice B.H. Marlapalle and Justice Anoop Mohta also asked additional public prosecutor D.P. Adsule to file a reply in three weeks. The police arrested Kamal on June 24 for allegedly cheating one Tarun Kapoor in a flat purchase deal. Kamal had been absconding since January after his anticipatory bail application was rejected by the HC.
