Around 10.30am, Laxman Toradmal, a resident of Varsha Nagar in Ghatkopar (west) where he was living with his brother-in-law, had boarded a Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus-bound local from Vikhroli station.

He was going to Masjid Bunder to purchase some goods for his neighbour who was supposed to leave for Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

However, at Kurla station, the train halted for more than an hour due to flooding on the tracks.

Shivaji Dhumal, senior police inspector of the Kurla railway police said, “Toradmal got off the train and waited on platform 3 for the water to subside. During this time, he experienced severe chest pain and began panicking. Passers-by, on observing his condition, informed us. We rushed him to Bhabha Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.”

“We have registered a case of accidental death in the case,” added Dhumal.

Toradmal was to get married this year. At the time of his death, his parents were at their native village in Maharashtra where they were making preparations for his wedding.
