Picture this: You’re at a night club, the speakers are thrashing out electronica and trance music and of course there’s a big screen spewing psychedelic visuals. Except that you’re wearing 3D glasses and are a part of the visuals, like everyone else at the party. Sounds like something out of the upcoming sci-fi movie Tron: Legacy? You bet.
Touted to be the first-of-its-kind 3D party in the country, Tron 3D Nights is being hosted by Submerge — the dance music and events company owned by VJ Nikhil Chinapa and DJ Pearl. To make this possible, Submerge has tied up with 3D Disco, an act from the UK that specialises in creating a 3D audio-visual environment.
“We got in touch with 3D Disco when we visited Amsterdam this year,” says Chinapa. “Such 3D parties are popular all over the world, but there haven’t been any in India. We wanted to change that.”
What’s the connection with Tron? “If you’ve watched the trailers,” says Chinapa, “you’d know that Tron: Legacy is a highly anticipated 3D movie that features a soundtrack done by electronic gods, Daft Punk. So it was the perfect match. There’ll be elements from Tron at the party!”
While Chinapa will be performing, the main act for the night is Christopher Lawrence. Widely considered to be the top trance DJ in the US, Lawrence has won several awards worldwide and is voted by websites and publications as one of the best progressive trance DJs around.
He says, “This is my first tour of India. And no two gigs of mine are the same!”
