Ghaziabad man burnt in accident dies four days later
The man succumbed to his injuries at GTB Hospital in Delhi on Tuesday
The 18-year-old man, who sustained severe burn injuries after his motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck on NH-24 on June 29, succumbed to injuries at the GTB Hospital in Delhi on Tuesday early morning. He was battling for life for four days with over 70% burns.
Iqbal, the son of a tailor from Dudhiya Peepal locality in Dasna town of Ghaziabad, was on his way to Delhi on June 29 when the speeding truck rammed his two-wheeler from behind. His family said he was going to Trilokpuri, Delhi, Delhi to meet his sister.
“The bike skidded for more than 50 metres near Vijay Nagar and later its petrol tank caught fire. Iqbal told us that he tried to get away but his legs got stuck below the burning bike. So he could not move away and his body caught fire,” said Shahzad, Iqbal’s brother.
“He was recovering and was telling us that he will get well and go home soon. On Monday, his condition suddenly deteriorated and he did not recover. He died around 1.30pm on Tuesday,” he said.
The accident took place near the Vijay Nagar bypass police post. The truck involved in the accident was speeding and laden with cement bags due to which the driver could not control the vehicle after it hit Iqbal’s bike from the rear.
It took local residents and police nearly 15 minutes to rescue Iqbal from the burning motorcycle. The bike was charred and was brought to the police post later.
“We will now convert the IPC sections to 304a (causing death due to negligence) once the post-mortem report is received. The truck was seized soon after the incident. The truck bears a Haryana registration number but its driver fled the spot after the incident. Our teams will trace him and arrest him,” said Naresh Singh, station house officer, Vijay Nagar police station.
