A Greater Noida school official allegedly raped a foreign national student for a year, police said after the 11-year-old boy’s parents filed a case.

According to the complaint, the parents discovered the months-long assault on Monday. “When the boy returned from school on Monday, he started crying again. When his parents consoled him and asked him why he was crying, he told them that a man in the school’s administration department had been sodomising him,” a police officer said.

The law in India does not recognise rape of males, and such offences are usually tried under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (punishment for sodomy) and Sections 3/4 of the Pocso Act if the victim is a minor. Police have invoked both sections in the case lodged at the Surajpur police station.

HT is not identifying the school to protect the boy’s identity.

One of the boy’s parents is a Nigerian and the family had been living in Greater Noida for five years.

“The accused has been arrested from Greater Noida. He is a resident of Delhi,” said district superintendent of police (rural) Suniti.

Safety of students in school campuses has been in focus since the murder of an 8-year-old boy in Gurgaon’s Ryan International school.
