Speeding car rams into container on Pune-Mumbai Expressway, one dead

Maruti Thorat (58), Nitin Thorat (34) and Shantabai Thorat (53), all residents of Tadoli, were returning in the car from Mumbai when the accident happened near Talegaon at 68 kilometre mark on the expressway.

One person was killed and two others were injured after a speeding car rammed into a container on the Pune - Mumbai expressway on Tuesday, police said.

The Kamshet police informed that the Thorat family was returning home when the accident occurred.  The container (MH 46 AF 410) stalled and stopped near Tajegaon on expressway between lane no 2 and 3 for lack of diesel. Around 3.15 pm, the speeding car (MH 14 GH 8239) carrying three passengers hit the container. (HT PHOTO)

Police investigation officer inspector Vijay Dhende said,”According to information given by Samadhan Yadav, the driver of the container, we have lodged a police complaint and handed over the body to family member after post- mortem."

Critically injured Maruti Thorat and family members were rushed to a Lokmanya hospital in Nigdi where the doctors declared Maruti dead.

The accident caused a traffic jam on the stretch for over an hour.However,police personnel with the help of crane removed the vehicles and resumed traffic movement on expressway.
