Already running behind the schedule for auctioning the multi-level parking near its head office at Mata Rani Chowk, municipal corporation again failed in auctioning the parking lot as the reserved price disappointed the bidders.
Though 11 bidders came forward for the auction, no one placed a bid against the reserved price of Rs 37.44 lakh against the last year's Rs 25.87 lakh.
According to MC, the reserved price was increased as while the rest of the parking lots in the city were fetching huge amounts, the multi-level parking at the centre of the old city, which was also a congested area, was not fetching a lucrative price.
Kamlesh Bansal, zonal commissioner of Zone A, said the bid for the parking at Mata Rani Chowk was postponed as the 11 bidders, who turned up, did not bid for the parking. “The committee that has been formed for the auction of the parking would bring out a new date for the auction soon,” said Bnasal.
Interestingly, the contract for the parking expired on March 28, but the MC failed to conduct a timely auction due to technical reasons. The contractor has also got the term of his contract extended for one month's time at a payment of Rs 2.15 lakh. Thereafter, the MC will look after the parking's operations till a new contractor takes over.
The civic body has also revised the parking fee rates this year. After the new contractor takes over, the parking rates will be Rs 5 for bicycle, Rs 10 for two-wheelers Rs 20 for car and jeep and Rs 80 for tempo.
A report on the required repair works has also been sent to the MC commissioner. The multi-level parking building is riddled with problems, such as broken floor, non-functional lights and lifts, restrooms, among others.
