Against another 17 people, the police have registered a case based on video evidence of the attack and recovered the assault weapons. Kuldeep Singh, Gurnam Singh, Rinku, Bachan, Sakkattar Singh, Saver Nath, Fumman Singh and Sakkattar Singh, all from Bhittewad village near here, are the latest arrests in the case of murderous assault on Jasmeet Singh of Basant Avenue.
On Saturday, the day of the crime, the police had arrested accused Gurvinder Singh of Dhaul Kalan. All accused were part of the illegal protest rally on the bridge under the banner of Valmiki Tirath Action Committee. The agitation was over delayed construction of a Valmiki temple the foundation stone of which chief minister Prakash Singh Badal had laid.
The victim had reported that he had only asked for passage to his shop and said nothing to provoke the attack. Sukhwinder Singh Randhawa, station house officer of Civil Lines, said the police would produce the nine men under arrest in court.
