Land dispute turned bloody in Jaintipur village of Majitha assembly segment, when a local Akali leader, Rajinder Kumar, started firing at his brother’s family leaving an 8-year-old child injured.

It is learnt that Kumar alias Pappu, who is also a former chairman of Zila Prishad, had an old land dispute with his brother Pran Nath. At around 8.00 am on Wednesday, Pappu allegedly started firing gunshots at his brother’s house. As Nath’s family hid in a room, the firing could not harm them. However, a playing child named Kartik who is also their relative, got bullet injuries.

Notably, Majitha is home turf of former Akali minister and current MLA Bikram Singh Majithia.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Lali who contested last assembly elections against Bikram Singh Majithia, reached the village to meet the family of the injured child.

However, the congress leader was attacked by the rival group with stones. He was safe but his vehicle has reportedly been damaged.

At the same time, the police also reached the spot and arrested the main accused. “The police will take necessary action”, said SSP (Amritsar-rural) Parampal Singh.
