Will seek farmers’ inputs on debt bill, says Punjab CM

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday said the state government would seek vital inputs from farmers and farm labour bodies before finalising the legislation on ‘debt determination and settlement’ in the forthcoming budget session of the state assembly.

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday said the state government would seek vital inputs from farmers and farm labour bodies before finalising the legislation on ‘debt determination and settlement’ in the forthcoming budget session of the state assembly.

Presiding over a high-level meeting with the representatives of 12 farmers and farm labour unions at Punjab Bhawan, Badal said a high-level committee comprising officials from food and civil supplies, revenue, agriculture and industries have held several rounds of discussions with bankers and money lenders. The panel would now consult farmers, he added.

    Minutes before Chief Minister Eknath Shinde decided to include Sanjay Rathod as a minister at the last moment, on Tuesday, a call was made to Pune police seeking information on the status of the case registered at Wanowrie police station. As the CM was informed about the status, decision was taken to include Rathod in the cabinet. A 22-year-old TikTok star, Pooja Chavan, died on February 8, 2021 near her rented apartment.

    Chhattisgarh: BJP appoints OBC leader Arun Sao as new state unit president

    The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday appointed an other backward class leader, party MP Arun Sao, as the new president of its Chhattisgarh unit in place of prominent tribal leader Vishnu Deo Sai who held the post since June 2020. Sao (53), a first-time MP from Bilaspur Lok Sabha constituency, was made the new chief by BJP national president JP Nadda, a letter issued by organisation secretary Arun Singh stated.

    The Congress on Tuesday met Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai seeking his intervention in what it claimed were the plans of neighbouring Karnataka to construct dams on the Mahadayi river in violation of a Supreme Court order. The two states are locked in a dispute over sharing of the river's water, considered the lifeline of Goa. Goa has accused Karnataka of carrying out construction to divert the river water without authorisation.

    Lucknow: Paying rich tributes to the heroes of the Kakori train action on Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said that India attained independence in 1947 after years of struggle and innumerable sacrifices. “Today, as we celebrate 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', we must not let our differences divide us and weaken the country, rather we should collectively contribute towards a prosperous India,” he said.
