A woman of Prem Vihar Colony in Ludhiana with the help of her lover allegedly murdered her husband and dumped his body in Buddha Nullah, police said.

This came to light after the police rounded up the two on the complaint of Vinod Kumar, brother of victim Pramod Kumar who went missing three months ago. The accused Saraswati (25) and her lover Rajesh Kumar, also a resident of Prem Vihar Colony, have been arrested.

The police, however, are yet to recover the victim’s body. The case was registered under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused at the Daresi police station.

Pramod, a labourer, got married to Saraswati around eight years ago and had two daughters and a son, said Vinod Kumar.

He added that Rajesh was Pramod’s friend and would frequently visit his house and developed illicit relations with Saraswati. He said, Saraswati told him on July 7 that Pramod had gone missing after which they started searching for him and also lodged a missing report. Meanwhile, he noticed that Saraswati had started living with Rajesh.

Vinod also alleged that after Pramod came to know about the illicit relation between his wife and Rajesh, he objected to it, straining their relationship.

“When Saraswati had started living with Rajesh, I suspected that the two might have murdered Pramod and dumped his body somewhere,” he said.

The CIA-I on Sunday rounded up the two from a checkpoint near Daresi.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Satwant Singh of CIA-I staff said Rajesh had apologised to Pramod when the latter found that he had illicit relation with Sarswati. Rajesh had assured him that he will not meet Saraswati again.

On July 6, Rajesh allegedly offered alcohol to Pramod and took him to a vacant plot where Saraswati also followed them. Rajesh and Pramod indulged in a fight. Rajesh and Saraswati allegedly strangulated him to death and dumped his body in Buddha Nullah, said the ASI.
