Yatin Karyekar made his Marathi web series debut with Full Tight on Sony Liv

Actor Yatin Karyekar started out as a stage actor when he was barely three years old. He then went on to see the birth of television and how makers and audiences realised the power of the medium. Now, the Bajirao Mastani (2015) actor is thrilled to be part of the web series boom. Yatin is seen in his first Marathi web series, Full Tight, directed by Shriprasad Pawar.

The show focuses on the youth and how they bridge the gap with their preceding generation. On taking up the project, Yatin says, “Vijay Barse (producer of the show) and I have been friends since Shanti (the ’90s daily soap) days. He was a still photographer on the show. He proudly went ahead and produced a film too. However, at that point there was no demand from me for any role. This time, when he was making a web series, he called me and said that he wants to work with me. So, I said, ‘yes let’s do it’.” The duo later met with Pawar, went through the script and discussed the casting as well.

The 52-year-old is pretty excited about the instant feedback and response that the digital medium provides. He says, “I started with stage and have spent my life mostly on stage too. So, I was used to the instant reaction from audiences. However, when TV was born, though we reached every household with our shows, we were still alienated from the audiences. The reaction for our serials reaches us pretty late. But, with this web show I was transported back to my stage days. To see that instant comment or immediate post from audiences triggered nostalgia.”

The show focuses on the youth and how they bridge the gap with their preceding generation.

Yatin adds that it is “wonderful” to stay connected in a way. He says, “I think going digital is a wonderful thing. I am absolutely open to doing more on the web now. I am glad I got to see television when it was born and now I am living the digital boom. How lucky is this for an actor?”

The Munnabhai MBBS (2003) actor feels that the digital medium will definitely create employment opportunities. “What I mean is, when television was born, there was only stage and films, slowly the makers and the audiences realised the power of the medium. The same will be in the case of the web. We will gradually discover its power and it will bring work from across the globe,” says Yatin
