A former national junior football player and his friend were arrested in connection with a firing case in which a local sharebroker was seriously injured, police said on Sunday.
Abhijeet Chaterjee (24), who belongs to Kolkata and was studying in Vadodara and represented the under-19 national football team, was arrested along with his city-based friend Ronak Hirpara in Rajkot on Saturday, they said.
Police said the duo allegedly fired at sharebroker Vanrajsinh Gohil a fortnight ago.
The revolver used in the firing was also seized from Chaterjee, Police Inspector Sarvaiya, who is investigating the case, told PTI.
Before apprehending the duo, a police team went to Vadodara and interrogated Chaterjee who was later summoned by the city police and arrested, the official said.
Investigations revealed Hirpara had a financial dispute with Gohil, his former business partner, for which he decided to kill him and sought help of Chaterjee, who was his college friend while studying at Vadodara.
The two chased Gohil and Chaterjee allegedly fired at him, causing serious injuries. Gohil was taken to the civil hospital, from where he lodged complaint against the two, police said.
