Tokyo Olympics Highlights Day 3: India lose 0-2 to Germany in women's hockey; Sajan Prakash fails to make semifinals

Serbia's Novak Djokovic has taken the first set and is leading 2-0 in the second set against Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff in the men's singles second round match.

Two skeet finals today, both won by USA – after Amber English's triumph an hour ago, Vincent Hancock (USA) misses only one shot all series to score an Olympic Record 59 en route to gold.

Jesper Hansen (DEN) was second, with reigning Olympic champion Abdullah Alrashidi (KUW) taking bronze.

Hosts Japan pushed archery powerhouse and gold medal favourites Republic of Korea hard in the semi-finals of the men's team tournament before the Republic Koreans eked out a 5–4 (set points) victory.

That put them into the final against Chinese Taipei, which has just concluded in a straight 6–0 win for KIM Je Deok, KIM Woojin, and OH Jinhyek.

The hosts took bronze, defeating Netherlands 5–4.

1-3: Another heavy forehand attack from the top of the table. No time for Manika to make a good return as she nets it.

2-4: This is top-class TT from Sofia. A backhand followed by a short-arm jab with the forehand. Manika looking clueless here.

3-5: Equally good off her backhand as a quick exchange results in Manika scuffing her forehand.

3-6: This is deft! She is outthinking Manika too. Hits it soft, no pace and Manika has to play fetch to the net and she misses it.

4-8: Batra's wide forehand drives are just not connecting today. First, she mistimes it and next, she nets it. Couldn't get under the ball well enough.

5-9: Batra overhits her return. Sofia close to making it 3-0

Manika did well in changing her tactics after being two games down against Pesotska yesterday. That hasn't been the case against the fancied Austrian so far, who is simply playing at a very high level.

Even though she has lost the opening game, Manika should take confidence from how she has come back towards the latter half of the game.

4-8: Brilliant display of forehand from Sofia. Forces Manika to rush into her return and she misses it.

5-8: This time, Sofia wrapped her forehand to far corner but missed the table.

6-8: Gap is narrowing as Manika's heavy forehand drive to Sofia's body is returned long.

6-9: Once again, an unforced error. Misses the backhand cross table flick.

8-10: Two game points. Manika swerves back to return Sofia's push but the ball flies off the edge of the racket.

Much along expected lines for Sumit Nagal against Daniil Medvedev on a stage the young Indian least expected to be in last week. Nagal sneaked into the Olympics right at the last moment, made a quick dash from Germany to Tokyo, played his maiden Olympics match, won his maiden Olympics match, played the World No. 2, lost to the World No. 2.

The season has been a difficult one for Nagal in terms of results. Maybe this experience is just the kind of tonic he needed.

Tokyo Olympics: Sumit Nagal knocked out after losing to World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev in Men's Singles Round 2

Medvedev breaks! Sumit Nagal struggled on the serve in this game at the start, but came back to two points. But clinical Medvedev won the game. He is leading 4-1 and now will serve again.

Japanese teenager Momiji Nishiya won the gold medal in the women's street skateboarding competition on Monday, adding to the host nation's gold haul at the event. Rayssa Leal of Brazil won silver and Funa Nakayama of Japan clinched the bronze.

All three medalists are in their teens, with Nishiya and Leal both 13. Nakayama is 16. Though she initially stumbled and missed the landings on her first two tricks, Nishiya nailed her last three, bringing her total above Brazilian prodigy Leal.

Nishiya's victory came after Japan's Yuto Horigome won the men's skateboarding gold on Sunday. It was the first gold medal of the sport in the Olympics.

On Monday athletes competed again in front of empty stands without roars of approval from fans when they landed difficult moves, as spectators were kept away in Tokyo due to anti-COVID-19 measures.

Medvedev takes the opening honours 6-2. Not as one-sided as the scoreline would suggest, but the Russian clearly having little trouble. Nagal with three double faults, a couple of brilliant forehand winners and one early angled backhand return early on. That kind of set for him.
