Kamal Haasan seeks two promises ahead of Tamil Nadu assembly polls
In his address, Haasan sought two poll promises while voting in the state assembly election next year. He asked the voters to promise not to accept bribes for vote and also asked them to spread this message to others.
Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan addressed the fishing community in Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday as part of his ongoing series of rallies for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections in May 2021. He has been rallying across southern Tamil Nadu districts since Monday, pitching his party’s ideologies and political plans to people.
In his address, Haasan sought two poll promises while voting in the state assembly election next year. He asked the voters to promise not to accept bribes for vote and also asked them to spread this message to others.
He said that the practice of money for votes could be abolished if all the party workers actively spread the message to other people.
Haasan said that his party would reform the police department if voted to power. The 2018 Sterlite protests, where police opened fire on demonstrators against Vedanta’s copper smelter plant, and the police custodial deaths of Jeyaraj and Fenix in Sathankulam, in which the father son duo were arrested for violating Covid-19 lockdown norms and later died in custody, caused huge political turmoil in the district.
He assured the people that a fishermen’s team would be formed within the party and said that the fisheries industry earns more than Rs 60,000 Crore and it can’t be neglected by any government. He made promises for improving the fisheries industry and implementation of technology to help the community.
While talking about Tamil Nadu’s growth, Haasan promised that their party has the expertise to change the state into a trillion dollar economy, saying that it is his aim, dream and duty to do so.
In his appeal to the women, he said many ridiculed him for his announcement of salary to homemakers, but the idea is being thought about by European countries too.
Earlier, the Election Commission had denied the torch light symbol to his party and Haasan alleged that as an effort to delay his participation in the election and was confident of his symbol emerging victorious.
Kamal Haasan started the Makkal Needhi Maiam political party in 2018 and contested in 37 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.
