Research-Backed Choices
Every product we recommend is chosen through a combination of Primary Research and Secondary Research.

For the past seven years, I have tracked consumer tech through constant shifts in hardware, platforms, and the way people actually use devices. Covering everything from budget gear to flagship hardware, I focus on what readers need to know, not on buzzwords or launch cycle hype. My expertise spans gaming laptops and chairs, high-performance PCs, gaming monitors, printers, smartwatches, earphones, headphones, Bluetooth speakers, tablets, and more, with a particular emphasis on how these products hold up in daily use. Reviews, explainers, buying guides, and news pieces all share the same goal: giving readers enough detail to make confident decisions without wading through fluff. Away from deadlines, I spend a lot of time gaming and watching films and anime, which naturally filters back into the work. Performance, comfort, display quality, and sound are judged the way players and viewers experience them, not just by lab numbers, which keeps my coverage grounded in real scenarios rather than just benchmarks.

Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch are two of the biggest names in the smartwatch market. Both offer premium designs, health tracking, fitness features, notifications, calling, apps and several other smartwatch features. On paper, the difference between them may not look very big.
The bigger difference is how they fit into your smartphone ecosystem. If you have an iPhone, Apple Watch is the obvious choice. If you have an Android phone, Samsung Galaxy Watch is the option to consider. There is no real way to mix and match these two ecosystems. But if you are also planning to change your phone, the choice becomes more interesting.
Here are the differences that can actually affect your decision.
Your smartphone decides the smartwatch
This is the first thing you need to consider before comparing any other feature. Apple Watch is designed to work with the iPhone, while Samsung Galaxy Watch is built mainly for Android smartphones. This means your choice is largely decided by the phone you already own.
Apple Watch offers deeper integration with the iPhone, while Galaxy Watch works particularly well with Samsung Galaxy phones and the wider Android ecosystem.
So, if you are happy with your current phone, there is not much of a choice. But if you are planning to switch from iPhone to Android, or Android to iPhone, your smartwatch should also be part of that decision.
Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch look very different
Both watches look premium, but the designs are quite different. Apple Watch uses a square shaped display, while Samsung Galaxy Watch uses a round display. This is probably one of the most noticeable differences between the two.
I personally prefer the round design of Galaxy Watch because it looks more like a traditional watch. An analogue watch face also looks particularly good on a high quality round AMOLED display.
Apple Watch has a more recognisable smartwatch design, while Galaxy Watch can easily pass as a traditional watch when you use a conventional watch face. The choice here is mostly personal, but it is worth trying both designs before spending money on a premium smartwatch.
Health features are more complicated than the sensors
Both Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch have optical heart rate sensors, temperature sensing, motion sensors and other hardware used for health and fitness tracking. Depending on the model, you can also get features such as ECG, sleep tracking, blood oxygen related measurements, heart rate alerts and other health metrics.
But the important difference is not always the sensor itself. It is how each company uses the data. Apple puts its health data into the Apple Health ecosystem, while Samsung uses Samsung Health. Both can give you detailed information about sleep, workouts, heart rate and other metrics, but the way this information is presented and interpreted can be quite different.
If health tracking is the main reason you are buying a smartwatch, I would strongly recommend trying both platforms before making a decision. The actual experience of viewing and understanding your health data can matter more than the specifications listed on the box.
Everyday smartwatch features are mostly similar
Both can show smartphone notifications, let you answer calls, track workouts, control music, use navigation and install additional apps. You also get different watch faces, fitness tracking and various customisation options.
Apple has its own App Store and watchOS ecosystem, while Galaxy Watch uses Wear OS with Google's app ecosystem. Both platforms have a good selection of apps, although the experience is naturally different.
For basic smartwatch functions, you will not find a huge difference. Both can handle the things most people expect from a premium smartwatch.
Battery life is similar for regular models
Battery life is not a major reason to choose one regular smartwatch over the other. Both Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch are generally designed around daily charging, with actual battery life depending on how you use the watch. GPS, workouts, calls, always on display and continuous health tracking can all reduce battery life.
The Ultra models are different. Their larger batteries and outdoor focused design allow them to last considerably longer, with multiple days of use possible depending on the model and usage. If you do not want to charge your watch every day, the Ultra category is worth considering.
Price can make the decision easier
Pricing is another area where Samsung and Apple can take different approaches. The regular models from both brands generally sit in the premium smartwatch segment, although Samsung Galaxy Watch models are often available at lower prices during sales.
For example, the latest Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 is priced around ₹40,000, while Apple Watch Series 11 is also available around the ₹40,000 mark on Amazon depending on the variant and ongoing offers.
The Ultra models are a different story. Samsung's Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 generally sits around the ₹60,000 to ₹70,000 range, while Apple's Ultra range can move towards ₹80,000 to ₹1 lakh. This makes the price difference much more important if you want a larger and more rugged premium smartwatch.
Which one should you buy?
If you use an iPhone, Apple Watch is the natural choice. If you use an Android phone, Galaxy Watch makes more sense. The ecosystem is the biggest deciding factor and should come before design, health features or battery life.
If you are planning to change your phone as well, then look at the differences more closely. Galaxy Watch gives you the traditional round watch design and strong Android integration, while Apple Watch offers Apple's familiar square design and deeper integration with the iPhone.
Both are capable premium smartwatches. The better option is ultimately the one that fits your phone, preferred design, health tracking needs and budget.
