Kashmir to get more snow next week as harsh winter period starts

Gulmarg was the coldest in Kashmir at minus 11 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam froze at minus 7.4 degrees, while Srinagar recorded a low of minus 4.8 degrees and Jammu was cold at 5 degrees.

Two killed in Sirmaur after vehicle skids off snow laden road

Two persons were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off a snow laden road and plunged down a gorge in Sangrah sub-division in Sirmaur on Tuesday. The victims are Prem Singh, 45, of Viyog village, Sirmaur, and Bunty, 25, of Chunvi village, Sirmaur.

Snow, rain throw life out of gear, disrupt power and water supply in Himachal

Fresh snow in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and intense cold on Tuesday threw life out of gear with several roads blocked and power and water supplies disrupted. The hill stations of Shimla, Manali, Kufri, Narkanda, Dalhousie and Khajjiar received the second spell snowfall this year, while the lower hills were lashed by moderate to heavy rain.

Snow at Vaishno Devi shrine, highway blocked due to heavy snowfall in Kashmir Valley

The cave shrine of Vaishno Devi in the Trikuta Hills of Jammu region received snowfall on Friday, while the Kashmir Valley woke up to a white mantle of snow as it received the third snowfall this season, causing the blockade of highways. Officials said it began snowing in the shrine area around 8pm on Thursday and there has been intermittent snowfall since then.

At -20 degrees, under 20-ft of snow, Border Roads Organisation clears Rohtang Pass

Usually, Rohtang Pass is officially closed for traffic on November 15 and reopened in May for which snow clearance begins in March. This is for the first time that the BRO took up the challenge to clear the stretch after intermittent snowfall.

Four soldiers, two civilian porters killed as avalanche hits patrol in Siachen

The avalanche took place in the Northern Glacier where altitude is around 18,000 feet and above, AMI reported. Situated on the northern edge of the Himalayas in Ladakh, the glacier which reaches heights of 22,000 feet at places is prone to avalanches.
