NO! Traffic cops cannot remove keys from your vehicle during checking

According to Indian Motor Vehicle Act 1932, only a traffic police personnel of the rank of an assistant sub inspector can fine you for traffic rules violation. The ASIs, sub inspectors and inspectors have the authority to fine you on spot.

Chandigarh home guard dismissed for taking bribe

Chandigarh Police on Wednesday dismissed a home guard and initiated probe against two traffic cops for allegedly seeking ₹500 bribe from a traffic violator near the Hallomajra light point. This is second such dismissal within six days. A police official privy to the matter said the incident came to light after a video circulated on social media showed home guard Sanjeev Rana, attached to traffic police, returning money to a couple while a traffic cop is seen hurling abuses at him.

Helmet rule most broken on capital’s roads: Traffic cops

Data provided by the traffic police showed that between September 1 and September 6, 2698 tickets were issued for jumping the red light, 1,527 for dangerous driving, 1,229 fines were issued for driving without seatbelts and 254 for drink driving.

The number of tickets issued, however, is expected to go up once the state government provides clarity on “compounding challans”, which are those that can be cleared by violators on the spot.(HT image)

Traffic cop stopped for riding a two-wheeler without helmet, fined 34,000

Constable Rakesh Kumar was found riding a two-wheeler without a helmet with assistant sub-inspector (traffic) Parmeshwar Rai riding pillion. Both were posted at Plaza Chowk.

In a unique initiative, Ahmedabad Traffic Police has been imparting free education to around 200 children living on city footpaths and doing odd jobs for livelihood.
