A viral video from Odisha shows an omelette allegedly cooked under direct sunlight in extreme heat.
The intense summer heat in Odisha has caught social media attention in a rather unusual way after a video of eggs allegedly being cooked using direct sunlight went viral. The clip has left users amused, curious, and slightly sceptical, with many debating whether the heat was truly strong enough to cook food outdoors. While some called it a creative demonstration of temperature levels, others questioned the setup in the video.
The video has quickly gained traction online for showcasing what is being described as extreme heat conditions in Sambalpur, where temperatures reportedly crossed 44 degrees Celsius.
Cooking under the sun
The post was shared on Instagram by user @life.is.foodie_. The caption read, “Sambalpur At 44 degrees.” In the clip, a man is seen standing on his terrace during the peak of the afternoon heat. He places a pan under direct sunlight, pours oil into it, and gestures towards the sun as if to highlight the intensity of the heat.
He then cracks open two eggs into a glass, whisks them, and pours the mixture into the heated pan. Within seconds, the edges of the omelette begin to fluff up, suggesting it is cooking under the sun’s heat. The video also carries the text, “Odisha ki garmi,” further emphasising the extreme weather conditions.

The video quickly triggered a wave of reactions on social media, with users split between humour, doubt, and amazement.
One user commented, “Tell me honestly is it not a preheated tawa?” while another wrote, “Meanwhile in Assam we need blankets at night.”
Some reactions were humorous, with one user saying, “Omelette is okay, I was thinking you might get fried,” while another added, “Kolkata mein omelette overcooked ho jaata.”
