and Smita Bansal, who play couple Bhairon and Sumitra Singh in Balika Vadhu, have been part of the show since the last six years. However, now their characters’ storylines seem to have stalled and that is why the two are not willing to continue with the show.
A source says, "Anup and Smita both saw a lot of variation in their characters over the years — with Jagya and Anandi (their son and daughter-in-law) growing up and later settling down with their respective spouses. But with the focus of the story mostly on the lead couples now and even Anandi’s sister-in-law Saanchi, there is hardly anything left for Anup and Smita to do in the show except be a support system for the leads."

According to the source, the two had a word with the makers about moving on. "They want the transition to be smooth, and that is why they kept the news under wraps. They have had a wonderful time working on the show which added to their popularity. But now that their roles have become stagnant, they are ready to move on." Anup and Smita will soon appear in a play which will need them to travel across India.
Earlier, Pratyusha Banerjee, who played Anandi, had also quit the show.
