The teaser for Sacred Games, the first Indian original series from Netflix, was released online on Friday. The show, based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 thriller, features Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte in lead roles.

The 55-second teaser begins with Nawazudding laying back and surveying his kingdom. He is Ganesh Gaitonde, criminal overlord of the G-Company. “Sometimes, I think I am God,” he says. We see atmospheric shots of Mumbai, where the show is set, and glimpses of the underbelly we will be taken to through its course.

There are dance bars and police raids, black money and shootouts. No wonder then that the show comes from the Phantom Films duo of Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane. It is a return to the Mumbai noir genre Kashyap’s name is synonymous with.

While there is no dialogue in this teaser, we get glimpses of our lead trio. Saif Ali Khan’s policeman wears a concerned look on his face as he investigates the damage done by Nawaz’s character, and Radhika Apte’s RAW analyst.

Here’s the official synopsis: A policeman, a criminal overlord, a Bollywood star, politicians, cultists, spies, and terrorists—the lives of the privileged, the famous, the wretched, and the bloodthirsty interweave with cataclysmic consequences amid the chaos of modern-day Mumbai. The series is based on the critically-acclaimed best-selling novel Sacred Games by author Vikram Chandra.

Sacred Games will begin streaming on Netflix on July 6, all over the world.
