Yogi govt arrests 108 PFI members in 4 days over anti-CAA protest violence

The Uttar Pradesh government announced on Monday that it had arrested over 100 members of the Popular Front of India (PFI). While addressing the media, Additional Chief Secretary of UP Home Department, Avnish Awasthi, said that 108 people had been arrested in just 4 days. The state administration has accused PFI of engineering violence during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and a proposed National Register of Citizens. Recent media reports had also stated that the Enforcement Directorate had linked PFI funding to anti-CAA protests in various places. PFI, however, has denied all the allegations.
