Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi called off their strike but continued a symbolic protest against violence against a doctor in West Bengal. The case of assault of a doctor by relatives of a patient who had died has turned into a rallying cry for doctors across the country seeking better protection at work. AIIMS' Resident Doctors' Association has withdrawn its strike for now, but has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Mamata Banerjee's government in West Bengal. A delegation of the Indian Medical Association, which has backed the protests, also met the Union Health Minister.
